Self care is not selfish.

When asking google what selfish means it says, selfish: (of a person, action, or motive) lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one’s own personal profit or pleasure.

It seems like we’ve been in this pandemic forever. Lots of things have changed, people have lost loved ones and getting back to “normal” seems like a thing of the past. Let’s be honest - we’ve all gotten a little lazy with doing things that genuinely make us happy. Keep in mind that self care does not always mean cashing out on the latest purse, getting your hair done or taking lavish trips (no offense to anyone who enjoys those things as self care) but sometimes all it takes is going on a simple walk around the neighborhood to clear your mind and get some vitamin D, reading a book, cooking your favorite meal, taking a warm bubble bath, painting or doing absolutely nothing. For me, self care is making candles (obviously) but I do enjoy journaling and lighting my happy hour candle.  It’s something about putting my pen to paper and writing down whatever feelings I have. Journaling is my safe space, it gives me joy and helps to declutter my mind. I am an over thinker so when I am able to let my pen do the talking I feel so liberated.

It's funny, everyone always asks “what’s your best selling candle?” or “what’s your favorite candle?” and I always resort to happy hour. Of course it’s the best smelling tea cake candle ever but the name is what makes it even more special. I came up with the name happy hour because happiness is whatever hour you choose, no matter what time of day it is or what activity you’re doing. It’s your own constant reminder that happiness is all around you.

I know life is not always the easiest on a day to day basis, and we all have our own priorities and responsibilities to tend to but don’t forget the little joys of life. Self care is not selfish, make it your happy hour.
